All new players welcome. Feel free to turn up at a training session or if you would like any further information please contact Tim Sutton at saintscoaching@gotim.co.uk or Ali Stubbs on 01480 473460 and stubbella@gmail.com
England Hockey Certified Coaching
Our coaches are EHB-certified to Level 1 or Level 2 and we operate best practice NGB standards and child safeguarding in our Academy. We welcome volunteer parents who can help, under the supervision of coaches, to get the most out of each session. Goalkeeper development is supported with dedicated coaches as well as integration into team skills and small-sided games.
Sunday Training & Games (from which you can access - by invitation - evening adult training from age 12+)
Academy training is held on a Sunday morning, it is split into 2 major groups:
Wombles/Badgers (10-11.30am) which comprises of players aged 12 or under, split into age and skill appropriate groups.
Colts (11.30-1pm) for ages 12 to 18, who can also train and play in our adult and youth development teams from age 13.
2017/18 season
Winter Term will start on 3th September 2017 and runs to 17th December 2017.
Spring term starts on 7th January 2018 and runs to 25 March inclusive (we don't stop for half term)
Summer term recommences 29th April 2018 and runs until July 1st inclusive. There are a few bank holiday dates this term where we may skip a week.
The season runs from September to early July with the normal breaks for Christmas and Easter. In icy weather Astro pitches can freeze, so be prepared for a few cancellations.
Equipment
We welcome players of all ages and abilities. Children need to come along wearing clothes and footwear suitable for sport and layers for when it gets cold, including gloves. We recommend all children wear gum guards and shin pads.
We have a supply of training sticks to use if you are new to hockey.
Get Involved
We are an active, family-friendly and motivated club, with a wide, community hockey focus going beyond the vicinity of St Neots. We are based at Longsands College where there is a brand-new latest generation astroturf pitch and great amenities.
Hockey is the fastest-growing team sport in the UK. At an international level there is a growing following, and the GB teams are progressing steadily up the rankings.
Since 2012, with the Olympics coming to London, there have been great opportunities for hockey as the fastest growing sport of its type. For the first time ever, our GB Womens team made the final of the Champions Trophy, and gained a silver medal ahead of Holland and Germany, losing only to Argentina. Great Britain are typically more successful at Hockey than Football, with our Womens team winning Bronze (and the Mens team were placed 4th) in the London Olympics itself. More recently, in 2016 at the Rio Olympics our Womens team won their first Gold medal - alongside some volunteers from St Neots club - and this should allow continued development of hockey as a participation sport.
We have a strong and growing academy section where children from a wide selection of local schools are having fun building the future of the club, employing EHB qualified coaches.
We are affiliated to the England Hockey Board, where we have access to performance coaching as our young hockey players develop their skills. We typically enter the Girls and Boys U14/U16 Nationals, giving players age appropriate competition opportunities.
We operate a Youth Development Squad as a route for players to progress to our Mens, Ladies, Mixed and (eventually) Veteran teams, which play in leagues mostly across East Anglia.
