Our first 2017/18 Hockey Weekend
Posted by Tim Sutton on 6 September 2017
Over 150 players returned from their summer adventures to play hockey at St Neots this weekend.
On Saturday over 80 players competed in a succession of mixed-ability, 15-minute hockey games in an intra-club competition. It was a light-hearted season opener designed to blow off the cobwebs, and to welcome a good number of new players to hockey at St Neots.
With only a short pause for a BBQ at midday, the sun shining brightly and plenty of competition, our thanks go especially to Geoff, Fiona, JP and Duncan for making the day run so well.
We have now started training on Tuesday (Mens) and Thursday (Ladies) evenings, with friendly matches starting Saturday 9th September. It's not too late to get involved, either get in touch or just turn up to a training night.
On Sunday we held an open day where new players and beginners could try out hockey for free, and many existing players also brought along a mate. We had some 70 players across 2 sessions and coached in small groups with an emphasis on gameplay.
Everyone enjoyed the day, with teas and coffees laid on for parents (plus some sharing of discount codes for new season kit!). The day finished with an 11-a-side game where some really impressive hockey was evident - promising for the new season ahead. We managed to escape the rain just in time too.
Following Sunday, I'm pleased to say many of these new players have already got in touch to join the club, and we will continue to offer free taster sessions for new players each Sunday at 10am or 11.30am (depending on age).
Thanks again to all the coaches for making this happen
