Match Report

Match report thoughts!
- very busy match
- they had a squad of 16, we had 12 with Bridget Bickley returning from injury
- wasn't the best start from Saints as our first pushback, due to confusion, was pushed off to the back line!
- took a little while to settle into our rhythm
- due to unavailability of players, we were short in midfield, but the players in those positions put in a huge effort to feed the ball from defence up pitch with Callie Wicks seeming to get everywhere, all at once.
- we had a strong defence and kept solid as Cambridge South started strongly and throughout the first half had a number of chances through their attacks
- we broke on several occasions though, and Speedy Gonzalez Marie Quintilla got our first goal just before half time on one of these breaks
- we were 1-0 up at halftime and joint captain Alex Colby reminded everyone about supporting each other, using width and communicating
- our start to the second half though wasn't great. Cambridge South scored twice in quick succession, one from a short corner as Saints looked a bit confused
- we rallied though and being behind gave us more determination picking up the pace.
- and it would be another two of Marie Quintillas storming runs up pitch, abley assisted by Willow Quintilla that would earn Marie her hat trick and us the match
- Cambridge South responded but they just couldn't get another goal
- the match ended in a curious way to much controversy, as Bridget Bickley found herself green carded for apparent barging of a player, yet no one had observed this.
- Saints didn't let this bother them and they held strong to the end. Match ended and a win for us 3-2

POM - a special mention to Charlotte Simmons who played really well in midfield, working tirelessly to track her player, putting in lots of tackles and feeding the ball up pitch.
But there could only be one winner and she ran away with the vote, much like she ran away with the ball straight to goal, it was our little pocket rocket Marie Quintilla
