Match Report | It could have gone either way for the W4s, and unfortunately today just wasn't their day. St Ives proved to be a much stronger team than St Neots encountered previously in the season. They dominated the match throughout, with the W4s barely able to get a look in at the other end. With several of the regulars unavailable to play, St Neots suffered from a lack of older experience in the midfield and forward line, as well as a player in top diamond position. Although St Neots improved in the second half, they found it difficult throughout the match to keep the width, tending to channel down the centre of the pitch, which the opposition easily blocked. The excellent St Ives press also proved tricky for the St Neots defence to penetrate, which limited the W4s ability to move the ball up the pitch. That said, there were several beautiful runs up field and a couple of very narrow misses on goal by an unlucky Callie Wicks, Willow Browne and Marie Quintilla. Although the Saints fought hard, in the end they conceded with ten minutes left of the second half, despite some truly gymnastic goalkeeping skills from Steph Simpson. Captain Alex Colby could only describe the 1-0 loss as very frustrating.
