Match Report

A close game resulting in a 0-0 draw. With Ely being directly below us in the league it was always going to be a fighting game!

Unlike Ely, we had countless shots at goal throughout the duration of the game.

The most memorable being our disallowed goal from one or three short corners, around 15 minutes into the first half. In which the ball was injected by Ella Roberts, received by Mia Townsend, and then slipped to Hannah Thompson and her strike resulted in some air time, just above the knee, and was deflected into the goal by a defender from the opposition. The umpires were in disagreement, it seemed that one was willing to allow it and the other was not, in the end the umpire submitted and the goal was deemed disallowed.

Another unforgettable goal-scoring-attempt was by our right forward, Kirsty Clarke, who managed to get the goalkeeper to the floor 5 minutes into the second half but couldn’t quite get the ball over to her to seal the deal! Ely’s goalkeeper was undeniably formidable! She was the only thing stopping us from scoring!

Our formation may have been deemed out-of-the-ordinary, but it appeared to work very well for the team! We had 5 solid defenders, and so they were placed in the shape of a pentagon, 3 at the back and two slightly higher that covered the back and middle sections of the pitch. Our opposition never even had the opportunity to take a shot at goal, our goalkeeper didn’t touch the ball once, not even when there was a short corner, the defence did an amazing job to shut down the offence and clear the ball immediately!
