St Neots Match Report

Saints Team:    L5
Opposition:    Bishop's Stortford L7
score (SNHC first):2-1

Venue:- Longsands             Date and PB time: Saturday 31st October 11.30am

Weather: wet & miserable..

Spirit: Good

First half report plus score:
Saints started strongly with a number of forays into the Stortford circle but good marking and a gymnastic gk denied anyone from scoring early on. The midfield had plenty to do with the ball moving from side to side and the defence were also called into use as Stortford penetrated to saints circle from time to time. Bev Allgood, Emma Bettsworth or gk Tara denied the opposition a goal and just before half time, Ruby Lane ran through and buried a goal past the keeper. 1-0

Second half report plus final score:
The second half was also closely matched as Stortford determinedly fought for possession and were rewarded with a couple of short corners. The second one was well struck and deflected off Bev for a goal. 1-1. The youngsters had to dig deep as the opposition marked tightly and didn't give our attacker much time on the ball. However our goal scoring machine Ruby Lane once again took control and swept through the defence to score her second and win the game. Damp but happy, L5s go into next week remaining unbeaten and top of the table. Final score 2-1

Best goal for Saints: Ruby's first goal was a classic drive through and bury.

Best save for Saints:
Tara didn't have too much to do but had to watch carefully and clear a couple of times. The goal was not anything she could have done about it.

Best defensive moment:
All the defence played well together.

POM and why: Katy Lloyd for her consistent hard work in midfield and excellent tackling under pressure.

Funny moment:
Slippery conditions meant a number of players were upended but they struggled on...

Controversial moment: none

Anything else:
Another challenging game...we take nothing for granted...
