Spirit: Upbeat

First half report plus score:

Following on from their confident win last week, the 4s were in good spirits to start the match. Joining the regulars this week were Sophie Gurnell and Sophie Hawkes, plus they welcomed Becky Roberts and Callie Wicks back into the fold.

The 4s started strong and dominated the first half of the game. Short corners came and went, but that precious goal appeared to evade them. Cambridge hardly had any of the ball and the 4s defence was rarely challenged.

Score at half time: 0-0

Second half report plus final score:

It was a frustrating second half for the 4s. Try as they might, a goal was nowhere to be seen despite numerous opportunities. Frustration and the increasing heat led to tired legs, and it just was not going to be the 4s day. Just as the game neared the end, Cambridge gained a short corner, their first of the match. With 2 minutes to go, Cambridge pelted the ball home, straight into the back of the net, and with that, the 4s’ heads sunk. Despite rallying round to get another short corner and an opportunity for the Saints, the ball rolled out of the D and the full-time whistle sounded. The 4s were downbeat. They dominated the match, had much of the possession, yet could not convert all those chances to that important goal to win.

Final score 0-1

Best goal for Saints:   There wasn’t any

Best save for Saints:   To be honest, Cambridge only really had one shot on goal, and it went in

Anything else: Missing in action were Liz Owen, still resting a knee injury (get well soon Liz!), Bridget Bickley, off enjoying some well deserved rest for hubby’s birthday, and Iris Fearing, making certain her brother had a good send-off for University.

Where is the team placed now in the league? Nowhere, it is yet to start!
