Match Report

Saints arrived at their long-time rivals, St Ives, determined to walk away with three points.

With a four-game-unbeaten streak, Saints were on form and up for the battle against the local

foe.

The only thing worse than the journey over was the weather at St Ives. Strong winds made

communication and passing difficult for the away team, but it was a comfortable first half

performance from the team, with a green card for each side the only talking point of the half.

Going into the halftime break with the score nil–nil, the halftime talk was about using our

attacking play to pressure the home team.

With the wind at their backs, Saints started the second half strongly. A couple of positive goal

attempts from the likes of Kirsty Mckenzie and Chloe Cundick won short corners. A well-

placed clinical strike from Tanya Sargeant found the back of the net but was unfortunately

disallowed for not leaving the D first. St Neots were ramping up the pressure. With 15

minutes to go, Saints remained dangerous and were finally rewarded for all their pressure

with a goal from Millie Payne after another driving run down the left wing followed by a

sweeping hit smashed through the keeper’s legs at the near post. It was thoroughly deserved.

Overall, a good performance from this young team in difficult conditions which leaves them

in fourth place in the league going into the Christmas break.

Player of the match went to Kate Clark for a rock solid performance at the back making the

lives of the St Ives forwards difficult and massively reducing their hopes of finding the back

of the net
