Match Report | A full squad for the SNHC U14 girls team at home, welcoming back the county players who missed last weekend, and playing Felixstowe, Cambridge Nomads and St Ives. The first game versus Nomads started slowly with rain showers interfering with the game play. Nomads centre forward controlled the game, dominating play, with her greater experience putting St Neots defence under a great deal of pressure. Goalie Tara Bell was unlucky when a defensive error allowed a Nomads player to slot a goal past her, not helped by problems with her kickers. In the second half Tash Pope battled hard working with Georgie Bettsworth and Fee Stokes and taking on the Nomads defense whilst trying to keep it away from the more experienced Nomads player. However, a series of short corners against St neots finally saw a second goal for Nomads 30 seconds from the end of the game. Final score 2-0 to Nomads with Tash awarded player of the match by the opposition. The Felixstowe team was stronger than previous outings, but St Neots started strongly with Ruby Lane taking a run on goal, making the Felixstowe goalie and defense work hard on keeping her away from the goal. A short corner saw a shot by Katy Lloyd deflected and picked up by Ruby whose shot just went wide. However, Felixstowe then broke away and got past defenders Charlotte Simmons and Eleanor Masters, despite excellent shadowing and tracking back, and scored first. A half-time change of players made little difference and Felixstowe scored again despite some excellent play by Georgie who was awarded player of the match by the Suffolk team. Final score 2-0 to Felixstowe. The final game against St Ives immediately started strongly with Ruby taking a shot at goal from the edge of the D that was deflected in by the St Ives defender. Finally a goal! That finally opened the floodgates for St Neots with Georgie smacking the ball from the top of the D straight into goal and Ruby following up with another three goals. The goals made the difference to the whole team in picking them up and giving them confidence to take on players and move the ball around. Katy and Georgie worked well together in moving the ball around and providing opportunities for Ruby and forward Sophie Gurnell. Final score 5-0 to St Neots with player of the match Ruby. Other scores were: St Ives v Felixstowe - 0-4, St Ives v Nomads - 1-3 and Nomads v Felixstowe - 0-1 Overall player of the tournament for St Neots was Georgie Bettsworth
