Match Report | The 4's spirit is back!! No amount of rain was going to squash that yesterday. With a more regular 4's squad and a determination to win, the team approached the match against Newmarket with renewed vigour and positivity. Special mentions go to Sally Jex and Ella Cheung who stepped up, and a warm welcome was given to Iris Fearing, who came as a very last minute selection to make her 4's debut. After settling into their rhythm, it was clear to see that this was a 4's team who knew each other and knew how to play with each other. A different formation saw much improved support in midfield, enabling better links from defence to the forward line compared with last week. Despite the opposition scoring part way through the first half from a player on post, this all the more spurred the 4's on. Right before the end of the first half, some excellent play by the 4's achieved two short corners, the latter of which was beautifully converted to a goal by Iris Fearing, just as the half time whistle went. It was 1-1, game on!! Team talk echoed speak of support, positivity and more, more, more of the same. We can do this ladies, we can win this. The second half saw Sally Jex stick to the player on post like glue, stifling the opposition's ability to score. As tensions grew high in the search for another goal from both sides, the 4's stuck to what they liked doing best, playing as a team. Another short corner to the 4's, about 10 minutes before the end of the game, saw a well placed strike from Jay Dickinson thump the ball into the goal. Full time score: 2-1 and St Neots Ladies 4's had their first win of the season. Well done to all the ladies for 100% effort, positive thinking and support for each other. Roll on next week, it's onwards and upwards from here!! Woman of the Match: Sally Jex (honorable mentions Iris Fearing and Ali McMurray) |
