Match Report | Given the lack of players available for this match (due to injury, holiday, school commitments and county trials), it was by a pure miracle that we fielded a full 11-a-side team for the first game of the season. Many thanks go to Hannah Thompson who volunteered as a last minute double up and to Paula Bingham (Captain of the 2s) for sparing her. A tremendous effort was given by all throughout the match and hard work in abundance given that we had no substitutes. All players supported each other and there was lots of positive encouragement on a pitch even though the team was not familiar with playing with each other. Sophie Gurnell played a good first match, getting stuck in throughout midfield, and was welcomed into the 4s team with smiles all round. Despite being 0-0 at half time, a goal was conceded in the second half, with the eventual score being 0-1 at full time. However, the score line does not reflect the match as a whole. St Neots had a number of chances to score alongside several short corners but unfortunately a goal was just out of their reach. The team is fully relishing the return fixture with a chance to prove themselves on home turf. J Dickinson (Vice Captain and Leader of the Injured), in particular can't wait, her frustration with the score line in this match evident when reading her notes at full time....."Aaaaaargh!!!". Well done all!!! Women of the Match: Ali McMurray and Alex Colby |
