Match Report |
Once again, the 3s were only just able to field a side and the 4s had to concede through lack of players. Alec Pybus offered to play in goal for the first time ever and was a revelation; a stunning first appearance in goal with great saves, kicks and expert positioning. In many ways the home side, despite an obviously older age profile, were the better side. Often playing good, fluid, passing hockey they had the bulk of play in both halves. A quick attack by the oppostion in the first half by young legs saw the home team caught out in defences through lack of numbers but after that St Neots continued to press. More attacks and certainly more shorts saw St Neots wasting numerous opportunities to get the goals their efforts deserved. New player Gareth Cast was effective on the right, Josh Gardner worked his socks off and captain Geoff Watts had a solid game in midfield, blocking attacks and making incisive passes earning him player of the match accolade, despite being bowled over and hitting his head by a boy several years younger!! A great team performance which deserved a better result/
