Match Report | Away to Cambridge City 8th February 2020 St Neots Ladies 1s travelled away to second-place Cambridge City. On the back of two important victories, the team were full of confidence and belief going into this tricky fixture. The game didn’t start well. The ladies found themselves a goal behind within the first couple of minutes. A deflection from a tame shot on goal sent the ball past a helpless Melody Harding in goal. Things didn’t improve from there. Again, the Cambs forwards had far too much space and time in Saints’ D, which enabled the home team to square the ball past Mel for an easy tap-in from a yard out. A disappointing first half was finished off with a third City goal. After a difficult half-time team talk, Saints approached the second half with a much better tempo and looked far more positive going forwards. Unfortunately, Saints conceded two more goals, which made victory impossible. There was some consolation for the away team, as Eleanor Pybus pulled a goal back in the final few minutes of the game. Overall, an extremely disappointing afternoon for the Saints against a strong Cambridge City team. With plenty to work on at training this Tuesday evening, we go again next week. Player of the match went to Tanya Sargeant for a solid performance at centre back. |
