Match Report | The newly formed Saints Ladies 1s made an excellent start to their league season, winning 3-2 against Cambridge Uni 2. Saints dominated the opening period as they attacked in numbers with both speed and intensity. Saints were quickly rewarded with a short corner and Eleanor Pybus gave Saints the lead with a well executed, face paced strike from the top of the D. Saints lead was extended further when Cambridge Uni tried to switch the ball around the back and Sue Glover intercepted and slotted the ball home passed the keeper. Saints continued to pile the pressure onto the homeside and Millie Payne smashed a further goal into the back of the net.
Saints started strong early into the second half of the game and were unfortunate not to be awarded a 4th goal by Caz Osborne, where the umpire deemed the ball too high. A short break then occurred in the second period as the umpire needed a comfort break. When play resumed Saints experience a 10 minute flurry of crazy play which saw cards being shown to Sophie Faulkner and Lorna Marshall and Saint going down to 9 players. Saints managed to control the play and eventually got back into their stride. However, Cambridge Uni managed to secure a couple of short corners of which they managed to convert 2 and bring the game to a final scoreline of 3-2. |
