Match Report

A disappointing result for Saints, against a strong Norwich Dragons side. Dragons started hard, attacking at pace and in numbers. At the other end Saints were denied only by a last-gasp goal-line clearance after Annie Cerveno had robbed a Norwich defender and set-up Kirsty McKenzie for a close range attempt. Shortly afterwards Saints weren`t to be further denied as Kirsty McKenzie smartly converted at a penalty corner. Dragons equalised when Saints conceded possession and they broke forward quickly, clinically seizing the opportunity. Dragons took the lead shortly before the interval following another strong individual run.

An excellent start to the second half for Saints as they repeated their penalty corner success - with Kirsty McKenzie again converting. Unfortunately parity was short-lived, with Norwich regaining the lead from their next penalty corner. It was an uphill task for Saints after Norwich increased their lead, this time from open play. Saints continued to push forward hitting the post, but couldn`t capitalise on their opportunities - either from open play or a couple of additional penalty corners. The score-line took on a harsh look for Saints as a buoyant Dragons side exploited the space, with fast breaks, adding further late goals.

Player of the match for Saints was Lorna Marshall, stepping up from the 2s, she had an excellent, energetic, game in the Saints defence. Saints will be looking to bounce back from this defeat when they travel to face Ipswich II next Saturday.
