Despite conceding an early goal Saints worked hard to keep Spalding out. Tim Poole in goal was in good form and Tim Bates on a rare foray forward scored a magnificent volley as he powered into the D. 2-1 at half time gave cause fo optimism but the younger legs of the opposition made life difficult and Saints were unable to capitalise on their rare chances. MOM was difficult to assess since there were so many good performances especially from the two youngest players on the team, Will Bellamy and Sam Evans, who are both developing into fine men's league players.
