Match Report |
On a day when multi millionaire footballers "lacked heart" St Neots 3s could certainly have showed them a thing or two. Playing against a surprisingly strong and talented team dedicated to attacking hockey Saints found themselves in the unusual position of having space to launch numerous attacks themselves. In many ways this was a match where both goalkeepers certainly earned honours, both of them making many saves, often from fierce and seemingly unstoppable shots. Keeping to tradition Saints succumbed to an early goal but got one back through Oli Dawes. The second half continued in the same vein; Saints took the lead and stunned the home side who equalised...the final result a 4-3 home win, despite the away goals from Sequenza and Stubbs. Man of the match could have gone to anyone since this was a gritty team performance: Tim Poole was brilliant in goal, Tim Bates magnificent in defence, Sam Evans showed his increasingly mature positional awareness, Oli Dawes his incisiveness, Paul Stubbs his skill and Paul Ray his tenacity. Ultimately though, Mark Harrison played his best game of the season...a man possessed, excelling both when attacking and defending. The home side certainly knew they had been in a game and I suspect they were relieved to hear the final whistle!
