Match Report |
Being 2-0 down in the first five minutes was somewhat disconcerting to say the least, especially against a side with all but one over 50 years old! Lack of concentration and an inability to close down quickly enough gave the home side this early lead. However, Saints gradually tightened up their game and once again, the back line, ably marshalled by Nigel B-J and youngster Tim Bates, and with another athletic performance from Tim Poole in goal, kept City from scoring again. Saints continued to suffer from poor passing and need to get those basics right, especially against a talented and obviously experienced side. However, the second half saw more short corners and a number of opportunities, especially from the hard-working Danny Stevenson. A well-worked short corner saw St Neots pull one back and the home side started to flag but unfortunately time ran out and Saints were unable to capitalise on the better pressure they had in the last twenty minutes. Man of the match went to Paul Stubbs, not just for the short corner goal but all-round skill and application.
