Match Report

St Neots started very slowly at the first whistle and were quickly 0-1 down with a fast break away effort from a team who were very quick. St Neots were under pressure again from the restart, mostly the strong defence of Dan T, Chris S, Johnathan P and TIm Bates were able to repel the attacking players, however a small mistake in midfield meant a fast ball across the face of goal got through and a Spalding managed to get a stick to it and convert, 0-2. St Neots were quickly focused and managed to calm down and put the ball on players sticks, managing to string a few 1, 2s together and found a foot in the D for a Short. Oli Dawes flies the ball to Chris S and he offloads to Gary L for a simple shot to take it 1-2. St Neots again found a foot shortly after the goal for a second short, but a lucky save from the Keepers inside ball sent the ball just wide. 1-2 at the half

Both teams were looking to start strong but it was St Neots who pounced first and took the game 2-2 with a goal from Danny S assisted by Gary L. Spalding were clearly angered by this and pushed forward and quite quickly responded with a third goal which came from a small mistake on the back line. 2-3 and the game was quite intense from this point, the umpires having a word with one or two players to calm it down (I would like to say at this point that both Umpires, Shaun and Gay did a great job today and should be commended). Again St Neots react well, a break away from the back line down the right, Sam Lawman getting the ball to Rob H, who drove up the field and pushed the ball through to Gary L who dispatched for his second, 3-3. It was St Neots who for the first time took the lead after a great bit of personal skill from Danny S, who picked the ball up outside the D and ran in surrounded by three players, managing to fight through and hit a beautiful backstick shot into the top left corner, 4-3.

Spalding were fast off the mark now being behind, they showed a lot of fight and with their young legs were able to push high and put the St Neots defence under pressure, all four defenders played well and again managed to hold the attackers players off, but they finally broke though down the right and dispatched a ball across goal and was dispatched easily 4-4. With only 14 minutes of the game still to play, both teams looked capable of scoring, both attacking and both had chances, however it was St Neots who scored, again through Danny S for his hatrick, well worked ball from defence started by quick thinking from Slatch, hitting the ball out to Sam L on the right, pushed through to Rob, wild shot on goal, saved, picked up by Danny and slotted home.

The full time whistle is blown and St Neots hold on to a Hard Fought 5-4 victory. The whole team should be comended for their drive and determination, they never gave up hope and that is what won them the game today.
