Match Report | St Neots started the game, and from the start looked to dominate with possesion, looking to move the ball around in order to break through an Experienced and Capable Cambridge City. Both Teams were very attacking, however it was St Neots who struck first, a well taken Goal from Adam Horlock. St Neots applied the pressure from the restart and less than 5 minutes later from an attacking run from Paul Ray down the right, which ended with Adam Horlock slotting home again from close range. The Third Goal came again not long after and was this time dispatched by Phil Gentles, a break away attack and some smooth passing upfront which created this goal. Cambridge started applyign some pressure, winning some short corners but they were unable to finish, some good saves by Simon Gauntrey kept the 3-0 lead. Shortly before the Half whistle, Adam Horlock produced the goal of the game, picking it up a few metres from the post on the byline, turning and managing to lob the keeper and a player or too for a half time score of 4-0. Cambridge started the second half strong, playing high up the pitch, after stopping a St Neots attack and playing a fast counter, Cambridge found themselves with a 4 on 2 situation, the defence did well to hold the attacking players up, and after moving the ball around the keeper, and shooting, only to hit a defender on the line, a Flick was awarded and slotted home - 4-1. St Neots applied more pressure on the Cambridge team, playing the ball around nicely and making plenty of opportunites to score, but missing a handful in the middle stages of the second half. Our 5 goal came from young Charlie Evans who picked up a loose ball at the top of the D and slooted it home in the bottom right corner, and Charley had a great game down the left side, so was well deserved. St Neots who were now comfortable and probably a little too relaxed, tried to look at different playing positions and roles and in the confusion Cambridge we able to slot home for their second. Ending the Game 5-2. A very well deserved Scoreline |
