Match Report

The match started very evenly, both teams looking to hold onto the ball looking for those through balls to break the defensive line. It was St Neots to hit first, 20 minutes in, some good attacking play led to a short corner. Sam Satchell injecting to Chris Slatch who hit a great shot low to his right, keeper saved but the rebound was collected and finished by Gary Leyshon. St Neots continued the pressure, playing most of the remaining half deep inside the St Ives half, but credit to St Ives who but a great effort in defensively. St Neots striked again from a counter attack down the right, Gary Leyshon passed to Phil Gentles who made a great run through the middle, drew the keeper out and then swiftly passed to Adam Horlock to finished the move. Really well worked.

The second half started with St Ives pressing higher up the field, something they had not done in the first half, this caught St Neots off guard, and pushed most of our squad deep inside our half, and made it difficult for us to shift the ball out. St Neots defensive line of Tim Bates, JP, Slatch and Paul Stubbs worked incredibly hard to hold them off, and frustrated the attacking St Ives with their stick skills, but alas they managed to score a well worked goal, and this lifted them. They were straight back on us at the restart, and with the final 10minutes being played, St Neots were looking for answers. St Ives level the game with 5 minutes left to play. However, St Neots from the restart, pushed forward, something we had not been able to do for most of the second half, some quick feet in Midfield broke their Midfield line and gave St Neots a 5 on 4 situation, the ball was played out wide to the right, Gary Leyshon shooting from just inside the D, underneath the goalkeeper but hit the post, Gareth Thomas was the first to the rebound and slotted home.

It was a hard fought game with both sides putting in maximum effort. We very much look forward to this fixture later in the season.
