Match Report | St Neots 3 – 6 Horncastle
Buoyed by a win in the first game of the season Saints were confident going into the match despite their opponents scoring 12 in their opening fixture. It became quickly apparent that Horncastle were a lot stronger than their previous opponents. Pressure through the middle of the pitch was rewarded win two early goals for the visitors, before Rhys Edwards clinically finished the first Saints penalty corner to pull one back. A number of lucky deflections led to a third for Horncastle, but despite this, Saints went into half time still very much in the game.
Horncastle started the second half like the first, but some excellent passing play led to an opportunity for Rob Mitchell in the D. He finished well and Saints were within two again. Horncastle got a fifth before a classy combination between Brett Nunn and Brad Forsdick at penalty corner pulled another back for the home side; Nunn scoring his second in two games. Sloppy play by Saints in the Horncastle area led to a breakaway for the visitors and despite the best efforts of Iain Moor and Goalkeeper Ben Seaber, the sixth went in.
Although the scoreline read a 6-3 loss, Saints know they competed well and lost out mainly though a lack of fitness. They also have strong players to bring back into the team next week. |
