Match Report

The arrival of unbeaten league leaders Dereham at Longsands was always likely to provide a stern test of Saints recent good form. The first half was evenly contested with Dereham looking dangerous when they pressurised Saints into mistakes and Saints also threatening - most notably when Kirsty McKenzie was agonisingly close to turning home Annie Cerveno`s shot at the far post. Saints additionally couldn`t capitalise on their penalty corner awards.

The second half started with a period of Dereham pressure, as the visitors asserted themselves on the game, Saints responding with resolute defence, lead by player of the match and Captain Paula Bingham. As Saints broke Lotti Knights outpaced the visitors defence, but was forced just too wide to convert by the Dereham `keeper. Saints fell behind to a strong Dereham finish mid-way through the half. Despite their best efforts, Saints couldn`t find the equaliser, that possibly their performance deserved and as they pushed forward the score line was given a harsh look as Dereham doubled their lead with a good individual goal in the final seconds of the game.

Saints will look to build on the positives from this performance when they travel to face Wisbech next weekend.
