Match Report

An improved performance from Saints, but unfortunately without reward, as they suffered a narrow 1-2 home defeat against Ipswich and East Suffolk. Saints started the game positively, retaining possession well and launching threatening attacks. Disappointingly, however, they weren`t, able to clinically exploit a number of promising attacking positions. IES launched fast breaks, but rarely threatened the home goal.

As the game moved in to the second period Saints increased their territorial advantage, particularly whilst exploiting a temporary suspension for the visitors. They still struggled to create clear opportunities and also failed to capitalise on a couple of penalty corners.

After a rare breakaway, IES pounced on a rebound to take the lead and then doubled this advantage within a few minutes. Saints continued to push forward to the end, with Captain Paula Bingham producing an opportunistic finish as the game moved in to the final minutes. Sadly little time was left for Saints to force an equaliser.

My player of the match for an assured defensive display, good distribution and support play was Tanya Sargeant who had hot-footed it back from her holiday in time for the game!

Next week Saints will need to set their alarm clocks for an early away game against Cambridge University 1s.
