Match Report

Saints confidence seemed to have been affected by the previous weeks defeat at Dereham and they made a disappointing start to the game, allowing the visitors to dominate. When Saints did retain possession they troubled Wisbech with the pace of their attacks, but unfortunately these were too infrequent. Saints fell behind to a penalty corner goal and the deficit was increased at another Wisbech penalty corner in the final play of the first half.

Saints responded with Katie Bates shooting narrowly wide and the home side failing to capitalise on a couple of penalty corners of their own. Wisbech proved much more clinical in front of goal, increasing their lead with an excellent strike from the edge of the circle and a further penalty corner at the final whistle - which made the score-line rather harsh on Saints, after an improved second-half showing.

The main positives for Saints were Kelly Bingham beginning her comeback from injury and an excellent player of the match performance from Sophie Waugh - on her first team league debut.

Saints will be aiming for an improved display and a home victory against Ipswich and East Suffolk - who they entertain in an important game next Saturday, 1pm at Longsands.
