Match Report | Saints faced a tough trip to face a free-scoring, top of the table, Dereham side with a 100% record this season. Unfortunately the squad was depleted by both injury and unavailability and this was compounded when Millie Payne suffered a serious leg injury, forcing her withdrawal within the first few minutes of the game. The home side enjoyed the majority of possession in the first half, but Saints defended resolutely and determinedly. The game was goal-less until the final 5 minutes of the first half when Dereham scored two goals, the first from a penalty corner. As Saints tired, in the second period, the game opened up and the home side added a further four goals, despite some brave defence and good saves - including a diving save at a penalty stroke by Mel Harding in the Saints goal. A spirited Saints side worked hard to the end, nearly securing a consolation goal in the final moments. Saints now have two important home games beginning with Wisbech visiting Longsands at 1pm next Saturday. |
