Match Report |
Despite the cold weather, the intrepid eleven players (and three parents) ventured into the wide, flat expanse of the northern plains, accompanied by brilliant blue skies and bright sunshine. Taken somewhat by surprise Horncastle were subjected to early attacks that lead to a St Neots goal scored by Sam Evans in a goalmouth melee. The game continued to see competitive play from both sides but the away team generally held their own against the 13 man squad of Horncastle although the score was 2-1 to them at half time. The second half saw St Neots score a second goal; a fine individual run and ensuing shot by the hard-working Jack Nethercott. Both teams had further efforts and Jack Percival in goal made a number of fine saves. However, the home side were able to make slightly more of their goal-scoring opportunities and ended up 4-2 winners. This was a competitive, flowing game played in excellent spirit, helped by good umpiring, followed by first-class teas!
