U16 Girls 11-a-side Vs Bedford

This game seemed all but over after about 15 minutes of the first half period when a constant flow of Bedford attacks led to an inevitable sequence of short corners. St Neots defended the first two well but Bedford mixed up their seemingly well rehearsed routines and scored from the next three opportunities.

The St Neots girls to their credit kept their heads up and began to dig deep and the game became a more balanced affair with Tanya and Rosie prominent though with every player raising their game admirably to keep Saints in touch. Terrific support from the stands helped too.

Scoring the next goal would be crucial if St Neots were to get back into the game but just as the Saints were enjoying their best spell of the first half, Bedford broke down the left flank and a sublime reverse shot from just inside the D flew into the net and it was 0-4.

Just before half time a few changes to formation allowed St Neots to keep more possession. The rest of the half and indeed the rest of the game was a much tighter affair, with the Saints narrowly missing out on a goal or two of their own with chances falling to Summer when cutting in from the right , Niamh after an exciting break which left her one on one with the Bedford keeper and Eleanor from a well executed short corner which was well saved.

MOM went to Summer who was a constant threat to a well drilled Bedford team, working equally hard in attack and when supporting Issy in defensive areas of the pitch. Thanks especially to coach Nik who raised everyones game with a really professional approach to team preparation, as well as some effective mid-match tactical changes.
