Match Report | St Neots got off to a very strong start winning a flick due to an overzealous goalkeeper taking Millie Payne down in the D. Lottie scored an awesome lifted flick to go 1-0 up. There was then an end to end battle between the two sides, with Ipswich showcasing their crisp and pacy passing met with St Neots determination to tackle or use their pace to keep possession. St Neots broke from behind the 16 yard line with Rosie Bettsworth and Charlie Churms linking up to take the play to Ipswich. Charlie slotted the ball through for Summer Payne to tuck in the corner of the goal to make it 2-0 to St Neots. Ipswich had one skirmish on goal towards the end of the first half however a foul led to the goal being disallowed. Willow Stevens, goalkeeper, otherwise had little to do as the defence stayed tight and well organised, led by Eleanor Pybus, clearing all attempts to penetrate the D. The second half continued in the same vein but with St Neots failing to convert a number of well worked opportunities on goal. The girls worked hard and stayed focused - a real team effort. Kira Herbert rightly secured the Man of the Match title following her contributions and commitment throughout the match, even though playing much of it out of her usual forward position. A well earned win for St Neots U16 Girls team! |
