Match Report | Saints maintained their unbeaten start to 2018, but had to settle for a draw in this home clash with Newmarket. After an early Newmarket penalty corner Saints established themselves in the ascendency, particularly when they took the lead on 15 minutes with a good reverse stick finish from Kirsty McKenzie. Despite enjoying the lion`s share of possession Saints weren’t able to build on this early advantage as Newmarket defended determinedly and in depth. Saints started the second half well - looking for what might prove to be a decisive second goal, moving the ball early and at pace. Clear opportunities remained, however, at a premium and when Newmarket did gain possession they broke forward with speed. As the game moved in to the final minutes, and just when it looked as though Saints would record a narrow victory, a Newmarket cross was deflected over the diving Mel Harding in the home goal, for a late equaliser for the visitors. A decent performance from Saints, but disappointment that they couldnt create more clear opportunities from the possession they enjoyed and manage to secure the full 3 points. Player of the match for Saints was young Lotti Knights for an energetic and skilful display in the Saints forward line. Next week Saints are on the road to Dereham when they will be looking to continue their excellent start to 2018. |
