Match Report

Looking to maintain the momentum, following last weekend`s excellent results, Saints were very quickly out of the blocks in their home game against the students of the University of East Anglia. Indeed they lead within 2 minutes, Georgia Grant`s shot was blocked on the goal-line, but in the ensuing goal-mouth scramble Kelly Bingham`s intervention was decisive as she forced the ball home. As Saints continued to press forward in numbers they doubled their lead when Eleanor Pybus converted their first penalty corner with a good strike. Mel Harding, in the Saints goal saved, well from at a student penalty corner - but generally Saints were in control for the remainder of the first half.

Saints needed the next goal to secure the points - and this duly arrived within a minute of the restart. An excellent move from Saints was finished off by Georgia Grant with a clinical strike from an acute angle – a definite goal of the season candidate! The spirited student side continued to strive for a reply, but frequently their attacks were foiled by Lisa Gibbie`s strong tackling in a well-deserved player of the match display. Saints performance didnt reach the level of the previous weekend but, none the less, an efficient display and good win.

Next weekend Saints will be looking to maintain this excellent start to 2018 when they make the short trip to face local rivals St Ives - in what will no doubt be a tough, well-contested encounter!
