Lowestoft made the better start to the game pushing Saints back in the opening minutes and took the lead through an opportunistic deflected goal. Saints gradually gained a foothold in the match and were now looking the more dangerous side. The visitors keeper saved well from a penalty corner strike and Paula Bingham was thwarted at close range. As Saints pushed forward, disappointingly they were caught on the break, they turned over possession high up the pitch and couldn’t recover as Lowestoft clinically doubled their lead. Saints continued to attack and they reduced the arrears when Eleanor Pybus scored her first goal for the team with a well worked penalty corner move, shortly before half-time.

The speed and intensity of the game was maintained in the second half, as Saints went in search of an equaliser. Again the visiting keeper was on top form as she stopped a strong penalty corner strike and Georgia Grant`s effort went narrowly wide, with Paula Bingham just missing out on a deflection. As the game moved in to the final 10 minutes Lowestoft seized on a loose pass and again finished well, to clinch a 3-1 victory.

A strong, spirited performance from Saints in what was a very evenly contested game. Too many turnovers in possession by Saints and an excellent goalkeeping display and clinical finishing from the visitors ultimately proved decisive. Saints player of the match plaudits went to Tanya Sargeant.

A busy double-header weekend for Saints next weekend (Watton – H on Saturday and a rescheduled match at Wisbech on Sunday) - when they will be looking to convert the promise of their recent performances into positive results.
