Match Report

Saints made a slow start to their home encounter with Dereham. They allowed the visitors to dominate possession and as they drove forward aggressively, they won a succession of penalty corners. Saints bravely defended these, but ultimately the pressure told with Dereham taking the lead from a penalty corner move. As Saints began to establish themselves in the game Georgia Grant nearly equalised, rounding the keeper, but the angle was unfortunately too narrow for her to force the ball home. Eleanor Pybus also went close, but her excellent penalty corner strike went inches wide.

The second half was evenly contested, but with few clear goal-scoring opportunities for either side. Mel Harding was in good form in the home goal, ensuring Dereham didn`t extend their lead. Whilst at the other end Kate Clark went close at a penalty corner, but was foiled by a diving save by the visiting `keeper.

So ultimately it was disappointment for Saints not to get any reward from the game. Player of the match plaudits went to Kelly Bingham for her tireless, determined and energetic display throughout the match. Saints will be looking to respond well next week when they travel to face Colchester.
