Match Report

Deja vu again unfortunately. The 3rds dominated possession and had an even larger percentage than last week against Cambridge City and it must have been upwards of 80%, but we came out on the wrong end of a scoreline, which is a bit of a worrying trend. We also dominated in the short corner count (6 vs 2) and also chances, but given our domination of possession, we could and should have created more chances than we did. Wisbech had no more than 4 chances at goal and converted 2 of them, the 2nd mid way through the 2nd half, with a break away after the 3rds had been camped in the Wisbech half for a sustained period.

Wisbech's 1st goal came no more than 10 mins in and was highly contentious with at least 2 Wisbech players crossing over and obstructing. This led to perhaps the most challenging part of the game. Nathan went to discuss with the umpire and walked off the pitch, initially I thought he had been sent off, until Nathan said "bring them off Mark". Nathan as we know is a very experienced and level headed guy and for him to be so incensed at decisions being made on the pitch and for him to walk off, well, can I just say that I've not seen him so incensed before (in the 1st 10 minutes, it seemed that not a single decision went St Neots way). This led to a lengthy stoppage and challenging discussion with the umpires and where Nathan then came back on to the pitch. Upon the restart, St Neots took control and where the number of stick tackles and back sticks Wisbech were making were being noticed by the umpires.

As mentioned, St Neots dominated the game in terms of possession and for the vast majority of the 1st half and for most of the 2nd period, St Neots were camped in the Wisbech half, but without Saints threatening the D enough. It was telling that the goal St Neots scored was on a rare break away shortly after Wisbech's 2nd goal; with good work between Paul and Adam.

Well done to BJ and Sam Shemi for coming into the team today and both having good games.
