Match Report | A real game of 2 halves this one. St Neots had the better of the 1st half, with a number of Saints players playing well. St Neots had most of the clear cut chances in this 1st period, including 5 short corners to only 1 one of St Ives and numerous other chances and attacking moves. St Ives however, dominated the 2nd half after adapting their tactics well to better utilise their (vastly) superior fitness, skill and youth and that was despite them being down to 10 players after a sending off around 20mins into the 1st half. They ran out deserved winners and for St. Neots, the 2nd half was just one of those occasions where nothing went right, no player played to their potential and frankly, by the end of the match, it might have appeared to the impartial observer that St Neots had been eating all the mince pies over Christmas, while St Ives had been out on a fitness, zero alcohol regime and no pies! Both Captains at the end of the match commented that the subs available to St Ives were a real boost for them and with St Neots only having 11 on the 1st matchday back after the break and with an older side, perhaps it wasn't such a surprise that they were able to wear down the St Neots team. We need to learn from this result, put it behind us and prepare for the next match. Quick stand out mentions to Nathan, Adam and Willem to their great teamplay in scoring the Saints goal 15 mins in.
