Match Report

A game of two halves today. We came into the match today expecting a tough match and boy did we get one.

We started well and overall we played well first half and by half time time we had a semblance of control with a first half strike through Danny. Both teams had 2-3 short corners in the 1st period and generally our passing and movement was again good.

The umpires were not happy with either teams backchat however and stopped the game on at least one occasion in the half and called the captains over during the half time interval too. The problem was that some of the umpiring decisions were not helping the game

We started the 2nd half reasonably well but Wellingborough managed to equalise with a pretty soft goal and then the pressure started to ramp up. A few passes started to go astray, which then became infectious throughout the team, our team shape became affected and it was no surprise when Wellingborough scored again mid way through the half.

We were still in the game however and following a short corner, The ball was slipped to Danny whose goal bound shot was blocked in front of the goal line by a Wellingborough defenders foot (who freely admitted it after the match) and to make matters worse, the umpire blew up for the shot being too high, even though it hit the defenders foot!

We tried again, probing deep into Wellingboroughs half when Nathan was very robustly challenged but with no foul given (and I should also say at this point that the Wellingborough player came up to Nathan in the pub afterwards, apologising for the terrible attempt at a tackle and couldn't believe he had not been blown up for it). what happened however was that directly from this challenge, Wellingborough broke quickly up field and score their 3rd goal.

So, a hard game where we lost shape and some rhythm 2nd half, but where we could and perhaps should have got something from the game.

Man of the matches today: 1 for Simon for a couple of excellent saves

Dick of the Day today. 1 for Chris who displayed the definition of insanity by continuing to try hitting the ball rather than pushing it, even after his Captain had advised not to.
