Match Report | A decent win against another competitive team in this division, without us playing as well as we could. 2 good goals in the 1st 10 minutes by Danny exploiting gaps in the St Ives defence with his pace and finishing, gave us an element of control, until St Ives scored from a short corner (our short corner!) also within the 1st 10 minutes. For the remainder of the 1st half we were generally the better team with more chances and all the shorts. We capped off our scoring after 30 mins with a well worked short; injected by Mark, on to Nathan, onto Slatch, onto Sean who's shot was parried by the keeper only to be flicked home by Paul Ray. The 2nd half was a bit less well coordinated. Balls weren't sticking and we kept losing possession, so inviting pressure on ourselves. We still managed a number of breakaways and if one or 2 of these had stuck, we would have had an easier last 15. As it was, St Ives scored again which made for a nervy finale, without them really threatening again. i am confident we will further improve as we get more used to each other. It's a long season and we should be reasonably satisfied with the start. |
