Mens 1 Vs Spalding 3

St Neots 1s ushered in the new season with a bang, putting six past Spalding 3s. An all round good performance from a much-changed team to last season, will give them hope for the campaign.

Saints dominated much of the early chances. They took the lead through a strike by Rhys Edwards from a short corner. 

Spalding provided occasional threats through some counter attacks, but Saints continued to create scoring opportunities and were awarded a penalty flick. Rob Mitchell dispatched the flick to double the lead before the break.

After the restart, some early Spalding pressure came to nothing and Saints returned to their domination in attack.

Following a few short corners that came to no success, the hosts changed their tactic. Edwards slipped left to Brad Forsdick, who advanced on goal before slotting home.

The visitors pulled a goal back when a through ball was deflected in. Despite the goal, Saints continued with their push for more goals.

Owen Edwards scored the fourth, following in on a saved effort. Forsdick scored his second from a short corner, which was slipped left to him from Darren Coles this time.

Saints looked strong at the back with good performances from their back four of Dan Wright, Rhys Edwards, Phil Round and Jack Nethercott.

The hosts sixth goal came from another short corner. The injection from Round didn't come out, but some quick thinking from Brett Nunn retrieved the ball before passing it back to Round. His ball across goal was finished by Evan Lincoln and the win was complete. 

An excellent start to the new season, which saw St Neots go top after game one.
